Social Media Galore

“Social medias” are perhaps the biggest media buzz word these days. Especially the massive popularity of Twitter and Facebook indicates that these services just don’t go by unnoticed by the establishment anymore. Even the traditional medias write about these Internet phenomenons that used to be rather “obscure”, probably because a lot of the journalists are hooked too. Here in Norway Facebook is “the” thing, I think we got something like 2 million profiles out of 4,6 million inhabitants. I’ve had a profile on FB for quite a while, it’s a fairly intimate affair as I’m somewhat picky with who I “friend” and I prefer to keep a low profile. However, from various reasons (work related) I need to know and understand how this, and other networks function. Replicating The Real World

This heavily manipulated image of a great white attacking a military helicopter in front of golden gate was a true Internet e-mail "hit" in 2001.
“Photoshoped” have become a term bordering on an insult lately with the advent of digital photography. There seems to be a fairly vocal and widespread sentiment that altering and manipulating images is something fairly new, and a negative thing done by photographers and photo editors lacking scruples and integrity. Especially in fashion photography there have been numerous cases over the past few years with ridiculously retouched models looking more like something from outer space than real human beings. I understand very well the general scepticism, both from the general public and conservative old-school photographers. Yet, it also gets me thinking of what photography really is and I’m left with a feeling that many do not understand or comprehend the technical and physical nature of the photographic process, nor the properties of light. So I ask and try to answer - to freeze a moment in time, to make a true and genuine replication of a scene, is it in fact possible? Read the rest of this entry »
The Philosophy Of A Blogger

There are many ways to write a blog, some go the very personal route, telling about their everyday life, others just throw out some quick comments about recent events in politics or media and many specialize in subjects such as traveling, IT, gaming and so forth. What kind of blog you wish to have is of course entirely up to you, within the limits of freedom of speech and the letter of the law. In many cases, you rarely come accross the ethical side of publishing information, because what you publish is not very sensitive or potentially upsetting. Now, when I write the things I do in this blog, I feel I have no other choice than giving this some thought. As the name and the motto of the blog goes – Mind Over Madness. I have not been vey productive in terms of content over the last few days and that is mostly due to the fact that I’ve had my head deep down into .php and .css files. An Ode To WordPress

A few weeks ago I was (as usual) stumbling around the web, and behold, what did I find? The WordPress blogging platform! It looked too good to be true, and at first I simply wanted to test it if it worked. Soon I was awestruck by the abilities and quality of this software and an idea quickly formed in my dozy mind. What about I do something with this domain I’d owned for so many years, mindovermadness.org? ..and I did! I got started with a WordPress-based blog, not because I think I or anything concerning me is that interesting for other people, but because I’m the kind of person that needs projects, things to fiddle with and focus on. The process is more important than the result, sort of. Also, I’ve always liked writing, and since I haven’t been studying for many years, that part of my brain was in danger of shutting completely down. Writing this blog in English also gave me the possibility of reawakening and (hopefully) improving my English, a language I hold very dearly and love, albeit I have no higher education in it. Reading English is all very well, but to really improve one’s knowledge of a language, one need to write it too. Read the rest of this entry »
Mobile Web Browsers – The World In Your Pocket!

I’ve always been fascinated by technology and computers of all kinds in particular. I simply love shiny things that beep, whirr and buzz. A particular favourite is mobile technology such as PDA’s and cellular phones. I’ve owned loads of these over the years, everything from simple Nokia’s to advanced smartphones. Currently I’m sporting a HTC TyTn II which is a Windows Mobile-based smartphone with a full qwerty keyboard and a touchscreen. It’s no longer the latest and greatest (about a year old), but it’s still among the most advanced devices out there. A favourite use for it, besides of the calendar and SMS, is using it to browse the web. Either with wifi or EDGE/3G as data connection. Read the rest of this entry »
MMORPGs – The Genre That Changes The World?

I’m a gamer and that’s hardly a secret or something I’m ashamed of. I’ve played video games since the late 80s, when the Nintendo 8bit system was the king of the hill, I’ve killed and been killed in online FPS games, I’ve fought through musky dungeons and organized massive 40-man raids. I have dominated the world and spammed ICBMs, forcing virtual Napoleons and Ghandis on their knees, begging for mercy. I’ve been the king of the world, and lost it all when a game crashed and the save was corrupted. I’ve ripped my headset off my head and throw it on the floor with force enough to shatter it in five(!) different parts, and I’ve cheered like there was no tomorrow when our raid killed an important boss. I’ve been there and done much of it. I simply love games and they play a major part in my life. Read the rest of this entry »
