A well established tradition in Norway is to go up in the mountains and go skiing during the Easter holidays. In a secular society, very few care about the religious significance. The focus is on having some time off, food, skiing, drinking and having a good time. This years Easter came very late, creating interesting conditions for the ski and sun-hungry populace.  Almost no snow in the valleys, not even much on the mountain plains and in the ski slopes.

I spent Easter with some friends in Hemsedal, a well-known ski-resort area. I think there’s about 51 ski slopes plus many options for cross-country skiing. Besides of the hotels many people own cabins. We stayed at one, courtesy of our gracious hostess, driver and companion Karina. It was an enjoyable experience with good company, food, games, walks and simply getting out of the big city.
