Geiranger (14.05.2010)

The coast of Norway is dominated by fjords, tall mountains and small strips of habitable land where humans struggle to make a living. Nowhere is this as evident and…extreme…as along the western coast. The nature is breathtaking and it’s often hard to fathom how people have made a living here. But they have, for thousands of years. Several places small farms are built on a small, relatively flat areas high up in the mountain sides above the fjords. No roads go there, and one can only imagine the hard work it took to build these places.

On my trip to visit my brother in Ålesund, we went sightseeing for quite a bit. The day after we visited runde Runde, we decided to drive down to Geiranger. Geiranger is a fjord and a village. A major tourist destination with truly striking nature. These shots are a few snaps, nothing more, that I made along the way. Weather was gray when we started and we hadn’t huge hopes of a nice day. Yet, when we reached Geiranger the sun miraculously appeared and was kind enough to drop some photons on us. Still, summer hadn’t quite taken hold yet, and the colors where dominated by brown and gray winter grass.
