Mini-bio and A Photographers Statement
I was born in Northern Norway and grew up in the city of Tromsø. I have spent the last decade in Oslo and nearby regions, working and studying. I guess one could say I’m a Jack of several, but not all trades, as I have worked within several professions, for instance as a store clerk and with web design.
I’ve been making images for a few years now and the process, from planning and actual shooting to post processing and end product have gradually taken more and more of my focus. Photography is a passion that came to me relatively late in life although the fascination have existed for as long as I can remember. My take on photography is a somewhat unusual one, as I am severely vision and hearing impaired and I move on the very edge of what is physically possible for a person with my condition. I feel I have proved and continuously prove that as long as there’s will, there is a way. Still, my photographic work has little or nothing to do with a need to accomplish the impossible, about being a handicapped person engaging in a craft one would think was extremely unsuitable or about actually proving anything. The real story and my motivation is in fact much less ambitious.
Photography as an art and a craft suits my love for the visual medias perfectly and it is my favorite means of expression besides of the written word. It’s a technology (several, to be precise) that allows one to savor the numerous moments, the billions of fragments of seconds that constitutes our reality and our ever shifting lives. It’s a chance to capture a whole story and sum it up in a fraction of a second, something which is unique amongst all of mans technologies.
It is my perception that a passion for this medium is a life-long journey, a never ending process and constant development of body and mind. In my own case I do not know where the journey ends, especially considering my medical condition. My wish is to leave behind me a small, visual heritage. Images that evoke emotions, questions and ideas in other people. My days of seeing are unfortunately limited and it would be a shame not to use them constructively.
